Barbados training camp. Sort of.

21 Jan

10 days in Barbados and managed to ride every other day.  Setting off at 7am and doing a steady 40 mile ride until the temperature becomes too hot to handle at 35 degrees.

Riding with chilled coconut water in our bottles rather than energy drink.  Swim in the sea straight after.  See you Saturday.

Rollerpaluzza Night

13 Jan

On Tuesday 28th February there’s a Rollerpaluzza night taking place at Nonnas, Sheffield, from 6pm onwards.

In case you’re not already aware of Rollerpaluzza, it’s basically static bikes (fixed front forks, and rears on rollers), with a single speed gear, that you race, full-pelt, against the person next to you. The distance is normally 500 metres, which takes a regular human circa 45 seconds to 1 minute, however, i’ve personally witnessed some killer times at these races, so all bets are on for who takes gold.

If you hadn’t already guessed, it’s a competitive thing, meaning they’ll be heats taking place between 6pm & 9pm, followed by knockouts thereafter.

If you’ve never done this before then DO IT whilst it’s here in Sheffield. So much fun it’ll make you cry (or the sheer pain will)!!!

Tickets per person (competing or spectating…the latter is just as much fun) are £10, and include pasta and a drink. Due to space constraints places are limited, so register for yours now by emailing info@nonnas.co.uk (include full names of all people wanting to reserve tickets). The £10 payment will be taken on the night, on the door.

Places are going fast, so get yours reserved before they all disappear.

At Art Basel, Berlin’s Neugerriemschneider gallery spotlighted Simon Starling’s clever bike concept, called “Carbon (Urban).” The 2006-designed bike features a chainsaw for a chain and comes equipped with chopped wood.

British Cycling Membership

10 Dec

Nonna’s La Squadra has renewed it’s membership for 2012 with British Cycling Federation (BCF) and as such, one of the key benefits for any one who has not registered with BCF in the last 2 years is entitled to a £13.50 discount off Gold or Silver membership.
As you will see via the link below the current rate for Gold is £64 with Nonna’s membership this takes it to £50.50……Silver is £36 with the discount this takes it to £22.50
With the amount of cycling you are all doing it’s worth every penny for peace of mind whether your cycling here in the UK or abroad….below is the membership code for the discount level…please read carefully via the links below what are the benefits of  Gold, Silver or Ride membership.
For “Race membership” the promotional code is ‘NEWCMRA”……….
For “Ride membership” the promotional code is ‘NEWCMRD”………..
This link takes you directly to the BCF booking form to fill in as detailed above.

In order to view the difference of Gold, Silver or Ride membership see below.

Gold Membership.... is perfect for those who race competitively as it gives access to a Full Racing Licence, personal accident insurance and much more.
Silver Membership...is perfect for those who race competitively as it gives access to a Full Racing Licence plus lots of great value benefits.

There is a 3rd licence (just to complicate things) called “Ride membership” ideal for la Squadra members “Ride Membership”  is for the sportive rider……cost £12.00 this does not entitle to any discount as above …and cannot be used to purchase a race licence

Hope this is all clear….let me know if it isn’t however it does take some time to digest all the various benefits of Gold and Silver membership….but with thew amount of cycling you are all doing throughout the year it would be good to have a licence to have insurance cover depending on membership chosen
