La Squadra/Nonnas & Rapha & Giro Weekend – Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th May 2012
15 Apr
STOP PRESS STOP PRESS!!!! Amendment to Sundays ride!!!
La Squadra and Nonnas have once again teamed up with Rapha to bring you a unique weekend of cycling culture, Giro coverage and Peak District pedalling.
The Rapha crew are in Sheffield along with their Voiture Balai, otherwise known as the Citroen H-Van, pop-up shop, and possibly a pro team rider or two.
The van is a fully functioning espresso bar, serving hot and cold bevies to all us deserving cyclists.
Here’s the low down for the two days…
Nonnas will be transformed and fully Giro’d up; think bunting, balloons, flags, face painting and more than a splash of the Gazzetta pink around. TV’s showing the stages of the day, the Italian commentary adding to the buzz…a real carnival atmosphere.
Saturday 26th May – SHEFFIELD
Riders rendezvous at Baldwins Omega, Sheffield at 10am before heading out to the Peak District at 10.30am for a steady 45/50 mile there and back.
The Rapha H-Van will meet us at a secret location for coffees and cakes, and from there we’ll head back to Sheffield, finishing at Nonnas, Ecclesall Road.
Once returned we’ll be screening the epic 20th stage of the Giro, which this year finishes a-top the monster climb of Passo dello Stelvio.
Peroni promotions will get the party in full swing and Nonnas will lay on steaming bowls of their famous fresh pasta, gratis!
The Rapha crew will be milling around should you want a chat, and their pop-up shop packed with new season apparel will be, well, popped up. All current La Squadra members who joined from May 1st 2012 will receive a 20% discount code which can be applied to all Rapha goodie purchases.
Sunday 27th May – CHESTERFIELD – Meet at 9:30am for 10:00am depart.
Due to the Sheffield Half Marathon and also to give us a change of scenary we are decamping to Nonnas Chesterfield (HQ 2!) to start and finish. We will have the chance to recount our stories of the day before to those new to the weekend, showing off any new kit purchases and so on.
A circular ride’s planned on this day, but the route will be different to the previous. Another mid-way stop where the Rapha van will be there to supply sustenance, following which we’ll ride steady-style back to Nonnas, CHESTERFIELD.
The climax and final stage of the Giro is the Milan time trial, so we’ll be showing it for all to scream & shout at during the afternoon.
Rapha’s pop-up shop will be back and ready to swap hard earned cash for some of the most stylish cycling product going.
General Info
The limited Edition Nonnas La Squadra souvenir t-shirt will be available throughout the weekend, together with Rouleur books and the all new La Squadra new merchandise, including mussettes, bottles, & caps.
The two weekend rides are open to La Squadra members and non-members alike. There’s no cost to ride
Both post-ride events are free of charge and open to everyone, so feel free to invite family & friends along to soak up the atmosphere.
We’re super excited about this weekend, and feel privileged to be running it for the 2nd year in conjunction with Rapha. Hope to see you on one, if not both of the days.

Plan to try and get the usual Bolsover & District Cycling Club Sunday ride to join you from Chesterfield, hopefully we will help build up numbers.
Any idea what time the roll out is from Nonnas ?
The route’s done for Sunday 27th May! 50-ish miles with a stop to meet the Rapha H-Van in Youlgreave on the way back. Meet at Nonnas, Chesterfield @ 9:30am ready for a 10am-ish start. We’ll finish at the same point some pasta and Peroni. If you’re coming please please please email info@nonnas.co.uk so they can cater for the right numbers. Route and plans for Saturday 26th coming soon.
hi,
i’m planning on joining the manchester to chesterfield ride. Are we talking some nice hills on the way?
Is it advisable to email nonnas too?

Justin
In answer to Steve Crapper’s question: it’ll be great if you can bring along riders from Bolsover & District Cycling Club on Sunday 27th. Meet us at Nonnas, Chesterfield at 9:30am ready for a 10am-ish start.
In answer to Juston’s question: glad to hear you’re making the trip over from Manchester on 27th May. A few hills, nothing mental. And yeah, please email info@nonnas.co.uk to confirm attendance.
