61 miles. Could do Winnats to make it a bit shorter! Cafe options in Buxton and Tideswell. I’ll put it on my GPS but happy for us to go anywhere else

I’ll be out. Any route ideas Nick? They managed to get over 60 miles in last Saturday! How about that long touted trip to Long Hill?

Nice one Matt. more in-depth details here: http://www.redhillcc.co.uk/page/hand-signals-and-shouts although only take your hands off to point if it’s safe to do so.
For pointing out holes/grids/horse crap it’s often better to also shout out ”INSIDE!”, ”MIDDLE!” or ”OUTSIDE!” to let people know of the whereabouts of an avoidable hole. If the hole/etc. is unavoidable then a shout of ”UNDER!” should let those behind to brace for impact.
Also a great little post from Michael Barry about do’s and don’ts of riding in a group: http://michaelbarry.ca/2011/11/the-group-ride-2/ Well worth a read for those who haven’t done a huge amount of group riding. In reply to - Matt Rodgers posted an update: Public Safety Announcement: To clarify the shout when a car is approaching from either direction Car Up – Means a car is coming from behind you Car Down – Means a car is coming towards you An easy way to remember this is; coming from behind is ’UP’ your arse and [...] · View -
Amazing country. I’ve lived in Christchurch for a year, Wanaka for 6 months and a month in Nelson. A bit of a strange place for road cycling in my opinion. There just aren’t that many roads around so your route choice is fairly limited. Especially for enjoyable loops (we’re rather spoilt here in the UK for the number of small roads and the concentration of towns/villages) although the Port Hills and Banks Peninsula by Chch are really good cycling. It’s also one of the sketchiest places I’ve ridden for unobservant drivers.
MTB’ing on the other hand is really good with great biking to be had by all the towns and cities (Chch, Nelson, Wanaka, Queenstown) and some really good cross country routes.
Can give you more specifics if you want. If you’re out on Saturday then we can have a chat about it then.In reply to - Dave Joyce commented on the blog post Busy Weekend Couple of weeks in New Zealand shortly – looking at hiring a bike over there and doing some exploring (South Island). I can’t stop myself doing this every time I finish a ride. -
Hi Phil, I find forcing down bananas (although I can’t stand them) keeps cramp at bay. One of my old cycling friends used to get cramp really bad and ended up having tonic water in his cycling bottle which worked for him (don’t think there was gin it it too).
Were you just drinking water or were you mixing it up with powder? I was on a full High5 diet (powders/gels/recovery etc) for 7 days straight for the TransWales and didn’t get cramp once. Must be some science in there that was helping! Try some different makes of energy drink and you’ll find one that works for you.In reply to - Philip Corker posted an update: I got terrible cramp in one calf and totally numb feet after about 3 hours riding Saturday, I can still feel in the calf now,not pleasant. Hi Tom. Glad you’re making it out. Must issue the other La Squadraites with the ”triathlete alert” so they know to give you a bit of room on the corners

Actually Andrew, are you a secret triathlete or is it just an inner ear problem?
See you at Nonna’s.In reply to - mik shields posted an update: my turn to ask this week about sat am, 8:30 at Nonnas for a 9:00 kick off ? few less this week probably due to sub group training camp over in italy. anyone else out ? · View -

haha. When we were teenagers a mate and I clocked up 50+mph behind a lorry on a dual carriage way. Standing start from traffic lights we sped up to about 45mph and then the lorry pulled into outside lane to overtake a car. Should have seen the face of the lady driving that car when the two of us overtook her as well! Obviously it was a very dangerous and stupid thing to do and of course don’t recommend such reckless behaviour. ”We Were Young and Carefree”

Just set a Strava segment for that bit. Can’t really claim any credit for the time though seeing as I wheel sucked the whole way
Was tempted to try and sprint past at the end but was too busy gnawing at my handlebars just sitting on. -
Great ride this morning. Thanks Nick. Completely beasted by Hathersage though but I suppose that was kind of the idea
Good to be out again with you fellas on a Saturday morning. Loved the section on snake pass.

I was (and still am) completely f***ed! Tempted to push on to A&E at the end! Not sure if I had a bad day, am just a bit rubbish or if you two were on a bit of a sadism kick. Nonetheless, big high 5s, chest bumps and R&B handshakes to Ady Wells – Nonna’s most improved (or drug using!) rider!!
I’m still convinced it was down to the speed laced chewy sweet Tony supplied me with before Mam Nick! No doubt normal service will resume next Saturday but in the meantime chest bumps back atcha!
Top spin…everyone worked hard.Ady was awesome..the sweets didn’t have that effect on me and despite the legs feeling like lead and the mechanical,i made it home, albeit in a taxi!!
Top ride guys, nice to push on and not fuck around, clocked 65 miles and was back in by 1, well done to all…

Not much flat on that ride was there! Good to get some speed thrills down that Rushup Lane. Just checking Strava.ocm and there’s only a leader board for that going up. Hang on… my first time really looking around on Strava and who should I notice in 22nd place (at time of writing) on the Mam Nick leader board but a certain Ady Wells! Kudos dude!
