Whats really helped me is putting electrolyte tablets in your water to take while you ride – the marketing blurb says they are basically replacing the chemicals you lose when you sweat – i have the zero calorie ones as i find adding sugars gives me gut rot!
Also telling your legs to ”shut up” may help
In reply to - Philip Corker posted an update: I got terrible cramp in one calf and totally numb feet after about 3 hours riding Saturday, I can still feel in the calf now,not pleasant. I tried to drink as much as poss resulting in excruciating stitch, being new to this road cycling malarkey can anyone suggest a cause, I’ve [...] · View -

I ended of going out early and meeting a friend at Hope (who had driven from Manchester and didn’t think he could keep up with you guys), from strava it looks like you guys took a similar route and weren’t to far behind. I ended off having to do Mam Nic 1 1/2 times to help my friend get up!!
I have a link to a free months premium membership on strava which i will DM you.Hopefully see you all out Saturday.

I don’t suppose anyone has a turbo trainer that they are wanting to get rid of?
If not I’m looking at one of these if anyone has used one or can recommend alternatives? – http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/tacx-flow-t1680/aid:23924

I’ll hopefully be out if I can fix my old bike tonight without needing parts. See you tomorrow.
In reply to - Ben Lowe posted an update: Frosty start tomorrow (down to -4 in valleys so probably set for some great temperature inversion cloud thingies) so wrap up well. Lets go with Tony’s suggestion of a 9am meet at Nonna’s for a 9.30 start. Potential route: http://www.bikemap.net/route/1382698 with coffee stop in Tideswell (includes a nice alternative start of Sir [...] · View -

Good ride today – sorry i got lost coming into Sheffield – ended of at Tinsley Viaduct!!
Then got lost in the park Square cycling paths and ended up finding a nice cyclocross course near park hill flats.
Sorry about that Jon, its a tricky route back from that wahy out.
Todays ride went out East as the weather over the Peaks was -2 degC and snowing. We did a nice rolling course out to Braithwell and stopped at the Graden Room cafe for coffee and cakes.
Total ride distance 41 miles
Ride Time 2 hours 38 minutes
Ave. Speed 15.6mph
Average temperature – around 1 deg CNice and toasty then. I nearly came out after a month of man flu. Got up at 7.30 looked out at the frost on the window, thought bugger that and went and made a cup of tea. I must be getting soft in my old age !
Thanks for organising and posting the stats Matt was a good ride and a nice change from the Peaks
Great ride guys, good to see 8 of us out on a cool day. Thought we were in for a good one when I left Hathersage this morning and it was -2 with blizzard conditions and the ploughs out on the main road. Had a couple of scary moments on the ride to the club house.
Good call to head out east or at least I thought it was until the ride back over the Peak. Clocked up 60 miles! May be think twice before riding in again!!
Yeah, cheers fellas – good ride and the salubrious coffee stop was a bit o’ class;-) thanks agin, good to meet y’all.
Glad you enjoyed it Dave, next time we should turn up at the cafe a little but later and sample the fish n chips.
Heh, you’re on Matt;-)

I’ve got an older version of that trainer. It’s good.
I’d recommend fitting an old wheel with a specific trainer tyre. It’ll be much quieter, grip better and not eat your road tyre.
If you catch me in the 10 minutes after a turbo session, I might be selling mine very cheaply
bought a tacx sirius recently, budget option but been really impressed with it,no computer but i use my garmin for timing, heart rate etc (do intervals and count cadence),got it from la bicicletta, worth asking Alex there if he can match the price you have on your tacx flow, tell him your from La Squadra and i’m sure he will do his best..
I’ve just had my ChainReaction dispatch notice for my Tacx rollers so if I’m not out on Saturday it’s probably because I’m in a crumpled heap on my garage floor having flipped off the side!
Make sure you have a video camera set up for your first attempt…I’m sure we would all love to see it
